Hello everyone,
First, let me say that I have enjoyed many years of activity in online communities that utilize vBulletin, and have looked forward to using it myself one day.
I now have a client that wishes to migrate their organization's ongoing conversations from a listserve to a forum, and vBulletin was my recommendation straight away.
But then I started seeing red flags all over the web regarding issues with the version 5 updates, issues so bad that longtime vBulletin veterans left for another forum system. As you can imagine, this has brought on a great deal of concern and trepidation -- and I wanted to ask some questions to see where things are before I commit my client to a forum that will have problems.
1) A great deal of the dialogue that I've seen is from late-2012 and early-2013 (though a substantial conversation was just last September), so I am wondering -- how many of these issues have already been fixed?
2) I also noticed that many problems arose for those who had been using version 4 and earlier. How many of the issues in version 5 would also be a problem for someone starting a brand new forum?
3) Lastly, this forum will be very small and it will not be public. All members will be registered, and send their username and login info. Are any of the existing issues only problems for larger and/or public forums?
4) In the opinion of those using version 5, is the responsive aspect of the forum enough for a quality user experience on mobile devices -- or is the mobile suite app the way to go for viewing and interacting with the forum on a smaller screen?
Thank you all in advance for your replies!
Peace,
Jason
