vBulletin as a developer community and project repository

    Hi everyone,
We're considering vBulletin as a platform for our site, but I'm not sure if it's the right fit. The forum capabilities of vBulletin are clear, but I'm looking for a site which will act as a sort of repository for custom projects with our software. Users should be able to post links to their content, have a download button, rate projects, comment on projects, enter custom attributes, etc. Also there would need to be a user profile page.
The vision is for a highly stylized site with a completely customizable homepage and article pages. I've posted a few screenshots (with a lot of stuff censored )
So, my question is how difficult this would be to do. I realize you don't have all of the details and specs, but I'm just wondering about out of box vs. customization. I know there's modules out there, but how difficult would it be to customize these modules to create this kind of site?
    Any insight would be great.

Hello and thank you for your interest in vBulletin.

vBulletin is primarily forum software, so out of the box it won't be able to accomplish everything you need - though it can do some of it.
There may be third party "download" add ons for vBulletin 4 (see www.vbulletin.org) but we are unable to provide support for these.

We can only advise on vBulletin on this site, for anyone else's products you'd need to ask on their site.

Thanks. Why do you only mention vBulletin 4? Are there not add ons for 5? Or is 5 too new?

There is no such add on for vBulletin 5 that I am aware of.

Just curious, what specific functionality are you talking about in terms of needing an add-on? What would be the show stoppers for out of box?
      Thanks.

vBulletin doesn't have any sort of repository facility. It sounds like you need some sort of downloads add on, a specific central place where people can upload items and have them accessible via forum posts. vBulletin doesn't provide this functionality, you can attach items to posts but this isn't going to provide what you need by the sounds of it.

There used to be third party download add ons available for vBulletin 4 over on vbulletin.org, but we cannot offer any support for these.

If I was able to handle the repository elsewhere and maybe just add a button to the details page which links to it (as in the big download button on the comps), would the rest of the look and feel be possible relatively easily?
