    Advantages of vBulletin?

What are the advantages of vBulletin over some of the free options out there like myBB, phpBB, SMF, etc.? I notice the vast majority of forums I visit are running vBulletin.

It has rock solid usergroup and other permissioning schemas, robust administration options; tons of free products from third parties; has an API now, mobile apps (additional product), mobile style, facebook app (additional product).

One license covers 1 installation of the software, correct? Or can it be used on more than one installation by the same purchaser?

You will have a lot more fun on vbulletin than you would on any other forum.

We have been running vB since 3.6 and now at 4.1.8

I'm the tech guy (Kym )

I've written a tonne of vB add-on code - it is quite easy!
(Notable a Photographic competition system, doco in our Library (aka VaultWiki) http://www.ausphotography.net.au/for...erview&do=edit )
The frame work for addons is simple to work with!! Much better than alternates like phpBB or IPB.

We have used a few other add-on products, skins and stuff from vBulletin.org.
There are a lot of handy add-ons there.

Result - happy site members and a very functional photographic site!
That is the #1 goal - that your site meets the needs of your target audience.

In fact we can't deliver the result we want on any other platform,
even if we wanted to migrate (and I look from time to time), it's not as easy as vB.

vB is far from perfect but is getting much better. It is quite rich in terms of functionality.

                  Also:
                  1. We only use the forum as we don't need either Blog or CMS
I'd upgrade if vB had a decent photo gallery function, dropping vBA CMPS at the same time.

                  2. Major addons:
                  - photopost gallery
                  - VaultWiki for our reference library
                  - various skins
                  - vBadvance CMS (but only for a single front page, we could get away without it, I inherited it)
                  - tapatalk for mobiles

                  3. We wrote a navbar enhancer to give us a quick way for our member to get the links they needed
This sort of thing is easy
                  environment: Centos 6.9, Apache v2.4.25, PHP 5.6.30/xCache, MariaDB 10.22 -- vB5 Connect Licensed
