    Transfer of vB4 licence

I've just taken over co-admining a large, community forum after the sudden death of the previous site administrator. We run a vB4 board but unfortunately the previous admin didn't think to give leave his fellow admins the customer number and password.

The licence is worth a fair amount of money, and we cannot patch or upgrade until we either get control of our current licence or buy a new one. We are extremely reticent, for obvious reasons, to ask his loved ones to check his email for the licence information.

Is there procedure to transfer the licence in cases such as this? We can obviously provide more information privately to confirm all of the above.

Not really anything you can do without the customer info. I say just ask the family members for the email to get the info.

You might want to consider purchasing a license from someone at a reduced cost.

Are there places where people buy them?

To be honest, even getting his family/partner to check his email probably won't work: he was a very security/privacy conscious guy, used a completely different email account for his admining, so there's a fair chance even if we ask them (a few months down the line, say) that they won't be able to do this.

In the meantime, we can't install anything, including the recent security patch...

Each copy is keyed to the license (customer number). Even if you bought another license the forum software would still belong to the person that bought it in the first place.

have you got access to the hosting account cpanel where your forum is, maybe he setup and used an email of the website for vbulletin members you could use to get the password.
