    Migrating from a different forum

    Hi,

We are going to migrate from a different forum to vB. One question we have is what would be the effect if let's say we have a live forum called domain1.com and we want it migrated to vB however, we cannot initially install vB using domain1.com since we don't want it to go down just yet.

The idea was to use a new domain like domain2.com and install vB there then once everthing works fine, we will simply point domain1.com to the new vB.

Would there be any issues to that such as links, the license itself, limitations, etc?

    Thanks.

Why not install it in a sub-directory of the domain (e.g. domain1.com/vbulletin) until you're ready to drop the old software. Then update the URL in the AdminCP > Settings > Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details > Forum URL field to domain1.com from domain1.com/vbulletin and move all vBulletin files up to the root (if that's what you're planning on doing)?

thanks for the reply. To answer, we are also looking at migrating to a new server that's why we plan to run 2 servers in parallel so that we can easily have a roll back in case the migration fails.
