    Transferring from phpBB to vBulletin

I currently use phpBB for my Forum software but I really like the look of vBulletin. The questions I have are.

    1) Can I transfer all posts, threads, members and photos ( I use photopost ) from my forum over to vBulletin with out having any issues such as broken links or losing threads or members. If so can the vBulletin team do the transfer.

    2) Is there any type of support offered to those who do not know how to add MODs to forums. i currently get the team at freeforums.org to do my installs for a small fee.

    3) If I purchase the vBulletin software does that give me a lifetime licence.

    4) I have 2 forums so do I need to purchase 2 licences for vBulletin.

    5) I use hostgator.com for my hosting, I have the business plan. Will vBulletin operate with my current hosting provider.

You can view our importers and what they import here: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex

No, we do not provide any support for third party addons

You may use the vbulletin 4.x and lower versions as long as you abide by the license agreement

Yes, two installs will require two licenses.

If you're running two forums now, I don't see a reason why vBulletin shouldn't be okay.

You can also post at vb.org in the paid section there if you would like to hire a thid party for the conversion.

Yes, we will do the install but not the import. We do not make any recomendations on third party services. I would advise you at least try the install process yourself, if you get stuck/frustrated you can order the install service after

All I want to know before I buy the vb4 is if there are companies or people out there that can transfer everything from my phpBB3 forum to vb4 for me. If I was to attempt it myself I would not know where to start as i have no clue on what to do. I am a noob to this sort of stuff.

Most of the mods for phpBB:
                  • Require editing PHP files
                  • Are already built into vBulletin

Mods for vBulletin usually just require uploading an XML file and maybe changing a template or two. No editing of files.

My biggest fear is losing my members and all posts from my phpbb3 forum when i transfer. It is this reason why I have delayed buying vBulletin. I would have to pay someone to do it for me as I would not even attempt it.

Why? The import does not alter the source data at all, importing to vB is moderately safe.

                        Hi there,

Sorry to bump an old post. By any chance is it still possible to transfer a phpBB forum or to vBulletin? Where can I find a specialist to make this transfer for me?

                        Thanks,
                        Dalton

Our Impex software hasn't had an official update in many years so last year it was released as an open source project and there have been some updates. For more about Impex see here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...ad#post4045829

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee the success of the import using Impex and you would need to purchase a license to even attempt the import.

Another option that we do not endorse nor have any official relation with is a 3rd party conversion service such as http://gconverters.com/convert-phpbb...ulletin-forum/

I only know about it because over the years I've seen other customers claimed to have used them, but please do your own research if you decide to go that route.
