vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...Comment

I believe I can create a custom mod to affect the signup process in such a way that users are assinged to one of the predefined usergroups automatically (by rotation). I'll add the mod to my public releases at vbulletin.org when I get some time to work on it. You can of course speed things up with a donation, cheers.Comment

Anything is possible with time, money, and effort, the feature you're looking for won't be found by default in vBulletin. But nothing would stop you from adding it.Comment

Re: Can VBulletin Do This?
I guess I can send an email with the pass to the group That is up next..
For instance, if you use the built in subscription feature with the correct forum permissions to the relevant user group, there would be no need to touch it after that. A user would buy the subscription and automatically be given access to the relevant areas of your forum including the free part.
The mod mentioned above would be there to rotate the users in conjunction with the paid subscription. So in theory, if its your paying members you want to move around, you need a mod that moves the users from subscription to subscription within a set time limit.Comment

The user groups don't work like that they don't require passwords as they all work on permission sets. Only the administrator can change someones user group.

Man I wish people would read before they add their useless 2 cents.
I said in the beginning, that I wanted separate pass areas of the forum, like mini forums within the forum.. that was said to not be possible.
Then I was told that you could do that with groups, and have a pass for each group.. NOW we are at groups can not be pass protected.
Can I get some ****in answers from people at VB and not wanna be VB know it alls?
I am trying to get some info before I buy the damn product.. this is ridiculous.Comment

As we have said, this is not a function in vB and requires an add-on or modifying the code, which is not something we officially support. As for the feasibility and complexity of such an add-on, that is not something we can state for certain. The best place to ask that would be in the Pre-sales forum at the vB mod site: www.vbulletin;orgSteve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)

As has already been answered, there is no function for password-protected usergroups, and there is a function for password-protected forums.Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)

There is NO POINT in password protected groups. Password protected groups would be a huge time waster for YOU (having to establish a password for each group) and your USERS (having to remember several passwords to use your forum).
A user registers. They pick a password. You assign them access to as many forums as you want. The End.
This argument is like the tail wagging the dog. Instead of trying to prescribe an overly complicated workflow for your users, why not talk to us about the user behavior you are trying to encourage or support structure you want to establish, and we'll suggest the best, most simple ways to do that in vBulletin which will make your life as an Administrator and the life of your Users easy, Remember, this is about encouraging users to keep coming back and build a thriving community.
As discussion/community software, I can count on one hand the configuration problems that people have asked about that we haven't been able to solve using built-in features or free plugins available at vBulletin.org.Comment

Yes their is a need for separate pass protected areas, for this is what we are doing needs this. That is why I asked. Obviously if it was about letting people join the forum simply, then yes, ONE pass would work.
But that is not what I need.. What I need is pass protected areas,, either groups, or forum areas.Comment
