Is lending my extra licence okay?

Is it okay to lend someone my vB license. I am not selling it but lending it to another webmaster for his website.

Yea.. but I wanted to make sure if in case.
In this case, I'm still the owner of the license.

        No. It is yours.
You may transfer it to someone to be fully responsible for it.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

Or more easy, you can always remove a forum from one url and install it on another url if you change the url in your member area. Who cares who's running the server. But that's only my personal opinion.

I was reading through the Terms and Conditions earlier today for an unrelated concern of mine. I seem to recall that lending or subleasing licenses is infact against the Terms and conditions and you're not allowed to do this. You can transfer it to his ownership, but not lease.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

If it's not currently in use then you could let them use it. But as another thread here stated the rug got jerked out from under this kid. Seems the "partner" locked him out of the forum and basicly stole it.
You can add them as an authorized user but it remains your property. That way if you decide to pull out you can shut it down, no fuss, no muss.

I just read a similar thread and apparently it is illegal to even lend (for free) unless you own the forum. That answers my question.

It's not illegal to use the license if your part of the venture. If say you use your license, then technically you are an owner of the forum now. As your property is being used for the site. I don't see anything illegal unless you are charging some sort of fee to the website eg. rent. But if you join the other owner in the website project, and you decide to invest the license. Then technically it's fine.

I found the quote I was on about, I knew I read it somewhere!

The Software is licensed only to you. You may not rent, lease, sublicense, sell, assign, pledge, transfer or otherwise dispose of the Software in any form, on a temporary or permanent basis, without the prior written consent of Jelsoft.
So no, it isn't legal to rent/lease etc...
