    Upgrade Renew 3.8 series?

I need to upgrade renew my license, however I'm not intersted just yet in the 4.0 software. I have too much time invested in my 3.8 series and not ready to move forward. The only link I see to renew is for buying the 4.0. Can someone lead me to the place where I can renew my 3.8 license? THe members area does not help me

    Thanks!

You can't renew your 3.8 support.

You can only upgrade to a VB4 license, which will give you access to the latest VB3.8 releases *AND* VB4 for the entire life of VB4.

There are no more "renewal" yearly fees. You pay one flat fee and that's it until the next version is released (VB5).

(I assume you have an owned license.)

The old license model (eg. yearly renewal fees) is no longer being offered.

However, if you upgrade to vB 4 you will also have access to older versions.

        Upgrade to vB4.
That is the place to do it.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

O.K., I'm in the same boat. Am I correct in that in order to renew my license (or whatever you want to call the "new" way of renewing my license) it's going to cost me $195??? I thought it was cheaper if I owned my license?

Ya I'm still confused. If I buy the VB4 license, does that mean I own it then from this point forward? I won't have to renew anymore?

if you buy 4.0 you'll get all updates for the 4.x series
you can run 4.x for ever, even after no more updates are out.

Correct. The vB4 license will give you access to all previous versions as well. Do note that you can only run one at a time on the same license though.

I agree. So I pay $195 and I will get updates for the 3.8 series for how long? I'm guessing it will be at 3.8 forever and I will be paying for security and programming updates, but nothing good lasts forever..I'd go for that. I have a whole community built around 3.8. I have a classifieds add-on (with paying users) that won't work with 4.0 and I have a custom built plugin that won't work under 4.0. I have no desire for 4.0 at all.

I do not like this as well, I feel like I am being held hostage for running VB3. Proudly been running Jelsoft forum software for years, but cost is going to make me consider other options.

If I can make a suggestion, I think IB would benefit greatly by offering legacy customers a one-time purchase of the vBulletin 3.x Series to ensure ongoing security/bug-fixes for the 3.8.x version series. Many of us are not interested in vBulletin 4 at this time, and are likely to stick with vB 3 for the foreseeable future, but we would gladly pay a service fee if it meant getting legal access to the updates to vBulletin 3.8.x line (such as 3.8.5).
