    phpbb vs vBulletin

We are a long time user of phpbb.
    Our current stats are:
    Total posts 16342 • Total topics 1636 • Total members 1485

Number of concurrent users seldom exceeds 10.

So, our volume is not that great, but we are researching a replacement for the following reasons:
    • When SE's crawl the forums, our (shared) server takes a big hit, often affecting the entire site.
    • Would like a forum that is more efficient with our resources (i.e. less db hits)

Can VB address the areas above?
    Thanks much.

vB has some SEO features (like url-rewrite), and you can also purchase vbseo (for another 150 bulks) for your forum, to highly increase the SEO of your forum.

About resources... vBulletin takes minimum resources and there is a server configuration section, so the staff members can configure your server to allow maximum efficiency.

      Thanks.
But phpbb also has "server"and "SEO" configurations.

I need specifics -- how does vb provide more efficient resource management compared to phpbb?

To be honest I think you will be better off by changing to a better server than changing software..
Just think how your server will struggle when you gain more traffic and more SE's are crawling your server..

          This.

That being said, vBulletin is much more a software you'll want to use when you have a serious website with plenty of visitors... phpBB (in my humble opinion) is just nothing compared to vB.

I would agree when you mean vb 3.8
vb4 I would not recommend to anyone until the 2.000+ bugs have been fixed.

That's it. If you REALLY can't say ANYTHING nice to me at all on this forum, then I am going to go insanely mad at you. I've had enough of the UNTOLD ABUSE you are all giving me and you should really be CONSIDERATE of other people.

I wouldn't go with 4.0 if you're already having server issues
your best bet is getting a hold of a 3.8 license and adding vbseo

One question about vBulletin 4.0 license. Does it expires?, I mean in the way that you cannot use legally the product anymore.
