New Customer, Purchasing V4...

Hi, can you guys point me in the right direction - my heads spinnin' man.

If I buy V4, and download 3.8... start working on it... and then upgrade to version 4, do I have to restart all of my work or will it upgrade behind the scenes without losing anyone who has joined or made posts?

If that's in a thread or a sticky somewhere please let me know.

I mean, I guess I'm glad that I didn't buy 3.8 only to have a new release but I need to know something.

You will not lose users/data -- but styles, modifications, etc. will not work.

My advice would be to start using it if you need to, but don't modify anything major.

If you work on customizing your vBulletin installation in terms of templates and modifications, be advised that vB4 will be replacing a lot of functionality that modifications require and all templates are being updated on vBulletin 4. So yes, you'd have to rework things to make it functional for vB4, but posts, members, certain settings, and other will be maintained.

It's not childish. I actually don't believe v4 will ever be released. Honestly, I think this is a ploy to raise capital as IB is hurting badly... If they don't sell enough, IB will shutter vB and it's so-long money.

No legit company treats their loyal customers with this much disdain.

You know this is strange LegolasTheElf. I see a lot of posts complaining about the whining but coming in to this with fresh eyes it does seem a little crackish. I'm not saying anyone's smokin' it... just seems a bit crackish is all.
