$40 in December-February to renew it.
    After that: $60

Every year $40 if you pay it before expiration.
If it expires you still pay $40 in the next two months.
        After that $60

        (December-January-February: $40 March : $60)

The answers provided in this thread are probably not accurate.

I believe it is very unfair to newcomers to provide them with information which we pretty much know is no longer true.

We know that renewal fees will almost certainly not be charged in the future.

Instead, new versions of vBulletin will be released every few years. People will have a choice whether (a) to remain with the older version, without additional charge, or (b) to upgrade to the new version for a significant amount of money, considerably in excess of $40-60.

We all know that renewal fees are likely to be a thing of the past very soon.

I beg to differ, as far as I know, there has been no OFFICIAL announcement on pricing changes at all, and for that reason, and that reason alone, nobody except Jelsoft and IB staff KNOW what pricing structure will evolve. All in all, we only KNOW what is already present. All we do know about pricing changes is what was leaked, and that information is subject to change anyway so wont necessarily be true either. So if as you say the information already provided in this thread is inaccurate, then the information you provided is potentially just as inaccurate.

Actually, since no official announcements have been made, it is nothing more than disinformation to discuss anything than the current official policy, as the other posts in this thread have.

You don't even know what the new policies are, so what is the point in even trying to tell a customer what they are?

[...] or (b) to upgrade to the new version for a significant amount of money, considerably in excess of $40-60.
                        Thanks, Ray.

Where did you get the idea that it would be "considerably in excess of $40-60"? It's a nice assumption, but I don't recall seeing that posted by Ray anywhere.
                        Regards,
                        Nick

It is misleading and wrong to reply to newcomers' questions with only the OLD information. We all know that there will be changes. Ray Morgan has repeatedly confirmed that there will be changes.

To reply to questions, then, as though there will be no changes is simply wrong. It is a disservice to pretend to others that there will be no changes -- because we know that there will be.

We have an obligation not to give out erroneous information. And all of the initial replies in this thread were full of exactly that.

Spreading information that isn't confirmed is not any better than sharing information that is "old" (even though it really isn't old; it's still holds true).

The real way to answer questions like these would be: Currently, the way it works is ______. However, there are some major changes imminent, so keep an eye on the Announcements forum in order to be informed of these new changes.
                            Regards,
                            Nick
