I don't think this forum is intended for such questions, however, may I ask why you need MySQL 4, and not 5?

GoDaddy hosting will work if you tell them to put you on one of their Linux servers and not Windows.

Obviously MySQL 5 has a lot a of advantages over MySQL 4, and for best performance, vBulletin should be used with at least MySQL 5.0.15

Active support for MySQL V4 has expired, and Extended support ends at the end of this year (2009).

Many hosts are in the process of phasing out V4 because of end of life and that security updates will no longer be made for V4.1 after the end of the year.

Right, and godaddy is way over priced ... jodohost.com and sharkspace.com are more honest in their prices

I cringe when I see GoDaddy hosting recommended, especially as brazenly as it was above.

I bought my domain with GoDaddy but will take this recommendation to host at one of these places. They look very reputable...but worst case scenario and one of these companies falls off the map, am I at risk at losing ownership of my domain name? I assume I move the domain to them as well as using their hosting services? Is that right? Thanks.

Your domain name would stay with GoDaddy. You just point it to your hosting servers.

Having your domain registered with 1 company, and your web hosting with a different company gives you the best tools in case of a dispute. Having them both at 1 company means if there is ever a dispute, you are at their mercy.
