    Why VB license?

I really like vbulletin forums software but could you state why we have to get a valid license while we can get a cracked nulled version running without paying anything?
Many forums are working out there without a legal license. VB should have a hidden script to run if they want to disable a certain forum

    Why?

Well it is against the law. Plus you do not know if the nuller/cracker added a virus or a backdoor to it. Also, you get access to vbulletin.com/org and official support.

And it wouldnt be hard for a cracker to find that script and remove it thus preventing the measure. The same way they remove all other measures that Jelsoft could add.

It doesn't matter what measures are used, the action of cracking/nulling a copy of vBulletin is to REMOVE these measures, thus the ONLY people who will still have them are the innocent legal users.

Additionally to that if there were some magic hidden deactivation script, it wouldnt be long before some kid finds it and then calls it on lots of big forums. Which in all honesty would be far easier, and far worse then hacking the forum anyway.

So at the end of the day, if you want to run your forum illegally and risk severe legal action, your forum and web hosting being shut down etc... then go ahead. Otherwise, do the right and legal thing, and spend the SMALL fee on a legal license.

Don't think that by using an null'ed version that you won't get caught, because you will.

Also Michael Biddle makes a good point about the potential for back doors being added. Most null'ed versions of vBulletin contain the null'ers OWN back doors allowing him/her to gain unauthorised and potentially malicious access to your forum.

There are plenty of people who have free scripts of this but I wouldn't go to them because it is against the law to get a free forum that uses vBulletin software.

You might have problems with getting a licence for yourself now but wait a couple of years when you are able to pay for things yourself then you will be ok.

Until then there are some freeware forums around that are legal.

Also by buying a license, you support the development, so in the future you get better versions with new features. The developers don't work for free of course.

Also the access to vbulletin.org (modifications site) is only allowed with a vb license.

Because people worked hard to make this software what it is. Because they have to be paid. Because it's a supported product with licenses, rather than a free pet project which could be dropped any time the developer gets bored.

Using Nulled VB is not only illegal, it's pretty sad and usually only done by selfish people who think they have a right to take anything they see on the Internet.

Why not to buy? That's the question.

Why bother paying for a pint of milk at your local Tesco store when hundreds of people go in there and walk out with it without paying? Same principle. Not having a vBulletin license is a form of theft. As you go through your teens, hopefully you will understand the concept of this.

vBulletin is developed by people who spend their working lives creating this product. They have a families to support, and equally, they have a business to run. No money = no business.

Yes, there's free alternatives available which you're entitled to consider, but this does not justify using a pirated copy of vBulletin instead. Developers have the right to choose the license agreements for their products, which you are also legally bound by.
