and import an older 3.09 to the new db in a new folder on same url? The old db went corrupt. it also has VBP on it and I was think it would be easier to delete VBP and just install a new forum in a new db and try to import old tables over to new one. My host said maybe updating to new version may help but I doubt it. The forum still works but cant get into admin area and half the member list of 4000 is gone. Am I making any sense? I want to either buy and new forum or buy the upgrade.
Is it possible to do a clean install new db

Also I tried to log into the members area to buy a new forum but it wont take my info anymore. Do I need to pay somewhere first? Thanks for answering my dumb questions -
New passwords for the members area were sent out a few weeks ago. Check your email for yours.
Part of the upgrade process is making changes to your database. So, if you want your old database to work with the new version, then you need to do the upgrade on the old database. If you just import some of the tables into the upgraded (clean) database, you will really f*ck things up.
If you are having problems logging into your admin cp, then I think you can upload the tools.php file (from your do_not_upload folder) and then fix things. You may want to do a repair/optimize on your database also and see if that helps things.
