Easy to set up a VIP area within VBulletin?

Hi Guys,

I've been a user (not installer or running a forum) of VBulletin for a while now and would like to set up my own forum but I would like to have as part of the front end a VIP area where only invited people could access the VIP section and it would be password protected or via a VIP member list.

Is this feature available in VBulletin because everything else seems to do what I'll want it to do from the demo version?

you can lock any forum inside vBulletin to have a password request, AND you can also apply a usergroup permission to access that forum, so 2 securities instead of one...

you can also force people to buy this usergroup permission by applying a subscription to it...

I am definitely going for VBulletin but have to find a suitable local MySQL guru as I haven't got a clue how to set it all up :-<

Actually you wouldn't need any MySQL gurus to help you install vBulletin as the default installer will do everything from creating the database tables to populating them with the appropriate data to get the forums up and running. If you know basic Internet skills like using FTP clients and changing file name extensions then you're positively capable of doing it yourself.

Thanks for your input! Yeah I know basic net skills as have developed websites its just I've never got my head round databases - the only exam I ever failed during my computing course :-<

Their "starter package" will do just fine.

But, if you want to save money, you could probably find something along the lines of $5 to $6 a month...

As the sites already with them and I've got good links with them I'll continue to use them.

Is there a version of MySQL that would be best for this setup? I see MySQL 5.0.19 or later is recommended but which version of it will work with 101sitehosting?

Do I need MySQL Enterprise edition or what??!

Or is PHP 4.4.2 or 5.1.2 or later easier to setup/use?

I found to be installing vBulletin was getting the database names and hostserver names, etc configured into the config.php files. After that everything goes easily!

The recommended MySQL version is 5.0.19 or later. I'm not feeling comfortable with your chosen host though (e.g. not using cPanel control panel, PHP4, etc.). I hope you did a thorough research before signing up with them.

The installation process is a straightforward really. If things went wrong I'll be more than glad to help you out.
