I guess there has been an ongoing feud between joomla and VBulletin?

The feature sets of Joomla and vBulletin do not overlap. Joomla is free software and any vBulletin-Joomla bridge could be free or commercial (ala bbPixel's integration). I know of nobody whose interest is served by these 2 products NOT being able to communicate!!

I don't know the current status of Joomla 1.0.xx <-> vBulletin 3.6.x bridging/integration. I've heard some negativity towards the existing free solutions followed by an almost ubiquitous "just use bbPixel" response.

Since Joomla 1.5 beta 2 is surely right around the corner and the next version of vBulletin is a mystery, who knows what the next few months will bring. It really depends upon a future version of vBulletin to open itself up enough to allow outside authentication and permissions juggling without code modifications. Then users of these 2 programs will have our pick of which bridge/integration we want instead of hoping for just 1 good one.

it was all custom, mostly feeding off of community builder's plugin architecture. the joomla core was also hacked too in order to ensure sync between logons.

additionally, a vB plug was also implemented to also ensure two way logon sync

vBulletin and Joomla - can you help with this method?

In searching Joomla, I found this mod which claims to allow the two to share vBulletin's member database. The main page is in German, but even using a page translator, I can't figure out how to install it. Any of you programming wizards able to help formulate good installation instructions for us all? THANKS!!!

To translate the page I used http://www.google.com/language_tools

I have a problem to deal with bbpixel's integration and wonder if there is any workaround I haven't thought.

I can create now a topic in vbulletin and have it appear as article in joomla. The one I try is to have my users submit topics in the forum so it will appear on joomla, but have these topics moderated before they appear on joomla. If I enable moderated threads on forum, the topic is not shown on forum as normally but appears on joomla !!!

Have anyone done something like this ?

I tried it once myself to install the integation but it didn't worked so I just let the 2 systems run along each other. But I do wish that the members from the forum could log in from the site aswell.

i don't think there is a simple way.

it is a hard thing to do but it is possible. very hard to explain since it was all painstaking custom work which including hacking multiple cores & components & plugins.

3 months ago, Joomla reinterpreted the GPL using the Free Software Foundation's extremely narrow view of it.

As a result, bridges between vBulletin and Joomla violate the GPL license and cannot be distributed. SMF has already stopped distributing all versions of their extremely popular SMF <-> Joomla bridge and CommunityBuilder will probably follow suit.

It is a ridiculous situation and Joomla needs to wake up and interpret the GPL the way most people (like Linus Torvalds) do.

Feldon, I find this rather fascinating how a bridge can violate the GPL. Do you know of a link to where discussions or talking points about this took place?

                                Would be much appreciated...
