    upgrading

If I were to buy version 3.5.4 how would i upgrade to 3.5.5 when it comes out?

Do I just replace the oldfiles with the new files using my ftp manager? (in other word do I just install the new forums with my ftp manager and delete the old forums?) Or do i have to alter the database files as well?

You upload the new files and run the upgrade script.

If you want to do a full upgrade, then yes. You typically overwrite all the old files, except for config.php, then run the /install/upgrade.php file. vB does the rest automatically. It's very easy to do.

But you might not always want to perform a full upgrade. Some people (such as myself) like to download all the new files except for the /images/ folder, while others merely "patch" their current version by only uploading the changed files.

What do you mean extras? Are you inquiring about another year of updates after your the year of updates is up for the owned license?

It's $30 for continued access to software upgrades. Security fixes and patches are provided free of charge to all customers, regardless of license status.
