    Registration / Licensing

You'd avoid a lot of hassle if you set it up so that in REGISTRATION, there was a field for license info to confirm you have a legal copy. If you put correct info in there you'd be put in a User Group "Licensed" which could post in support boards. Users who didn't put the correct info in the reg. form would be put in "Unlicensed" and therefore couldn't post in "support" forums. That would save a ton of trouble.

We used to do that. People really didn't like it and it caused more headaches than it's worth. We feel it is much easier the way it is setup now.

People were afraid to put it in their profile because they thought that everybody would have access to their Customer ID and Password.

(actually it was only visible to Staff but people were worried anyway. There were various problems with that system and overall the current one seems to work better).

Is this why only the person who has the licensed can post?
How can other people who are admins for the same site post a question in those areas?

Even though it is in the eye-sight on the members area, and in bold. It still is not really obvious what or why it is there, nor that it is a link. especially if you are new. Ofcourse, after wondering about a bit in that members area, you understand it could be a link. Maybe it should have a little title/announcement before the bold text. or maybe underline it to make it more obvious.

A link to the page in my screenshot is in bold in the no_permissions error message on the forums. Eventually if your username isn't in the form you'll get the error, then if you read it you know where to go and what to do.

Well, I don´t own a vb licence, our board is hosted freely by a big games network in Germany - they provide the forum software, they own the licences. Does that mean there is no way for me to post in most of the forums here?

Don´t know if it fits into your description of big, but...

http://gamigo.de/ is the network. I never asked, but I can´t imagine that they would run illegal vb software.
