    Closed! But Why??

In the chit chat section a thread entitled "What is your favourite type of music" got closed but why? If you can't discuss that in the chit chat section, what can you discuss? I noticed the last post showed an appreciation for classical music, was that why it got closed?

Well I'd say, someone of the vB staff doesn't like classical music.

(The real reason might be that this thread was from 2003 and someone bumped it. I agree though, I don't see the problem in this case...)

Old threads often start attracting spammers.

When this happens, if the thread hasn't had any genuine posts for a while, we may close it to stop spammers latching onto it.

If you have a genuine need for it to be reopened, it can be.

You're welcome to open a new thread on the subject. After 10 years, it is probably the best course of action.

Not really wanting it reopened, just curious as to why it got closed, ok some topics would be irrelevant after 10 years but a thread about musical tastes is always imo relevant. As for closing it because it may attract spammers, that's like saying close the highway because it attracts speeders. You have to deal with the speeders as you have to deal with the spammers.

If a thread hasn't been replied to for many years, then if it gets hit by spammers it'll get closed. We don't have the resources to be spending all day weeding out spammers in that way. Just the only practical way to deal with it. Some of these old threads can suddenly start getting multiple spam hits daily.

We'd rather spend the time on support issues to be honest.

I can understand why old threads would be closed to control spam but my impression as a forum user is that threads with genuine feedback on them are starting to be closed. All feedback from users has a value, the negative is as valuable as the positive. Feedback is one of the reasons for running a forum - so customers can give you feedback.

This is absolutely not the case.

If you mean that threads with genuine feedback on them are not starting to be closed that's fine, but it remains a fact that my impression as a forum user is that they are. If I go to a forum I expect to see diversity of opinion; some positive, some negative. It's all feedback, it all has a value.

Sorry to bump this thread but I think it's all to do with who likes what sort of music and then when people disagree they tend to cause a mass argument over something so minor that the thread needs to be closed.
Happens a lot on my boards.

I've already stated with absolute clarity why the thread in question was closed. We don't go round closing threads because of music disputes. This thread is also now closed.
