Ive a received a security alert email about resetting password that I should log in and reset - looked fake! logged into member area with my usual password. All fine yet seems to be here I had to re set a password. Hope this is not a hack..Comment

I got the email also - it said they reset my password - but it did not give the new password. My old password worked for the member area - but when I logged into the forum it made me reset it. I was never able to find where to reset my password from the main member area - I don't know if they are connected or not. This seems either kinda suspicious - or just a tad sloppy.Comment

I logged out and back in after resetting the password and it seems to work. I went back to the main members area, logged out and back in, and finally found where to reset my password there. On "My Dashboard" page under "Account Information" it had the password reset. The members area and forums must not be connected, and each needs a new password. It seems they should have posted an official announcement here to back up the email, so we would be assured it is legit... I guess I'm all fixed though... as long as the hackers don't have access to the page now...Comment

The notice is legitimate and it is your forum password that needs to be changed. That is why the forum passwords were expired.Translations provided by Google.

Members area passwords are actually now the magento password.
When you login, you will be in the magento dasboard, you should see your name & e-mail displayed, with a change password link under them.
There is no indication that these were accessed, but you may wish to change it anyway.Baby, I was born this wayComment

I wonder who has been trying to hack into the forum?
Oh and as for the password I have done what was asked in the email.
Here's hoping that the bugger who tried to hack into the forum is dealt with by the cops.Aussiefootyforums

If you created the software, and you were hacked, how long before everyone running vbulletin is compromised?
How exactly were you hacked and what can I do to protect my installation?

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...Comment

Was confused with the way vB5 handle password change. Unlike vB3 and vB4, vB5 doesn't direct you to a new page or with the indication that the password has been changed. It just refresh the page and leave no mention at all that the password has change - leaving me to wonder, has it change or has it not? I have to try three times to ensure myself that the password has indeed change.Comment

After getting the email I first investigated this, because the email looked extremely fake. Some things that looked strange were:
1. reply address @shopping.ibemail.com
2. the images point to click.shopping.ibemail.com
3. the password change url points to the vbulletin.org page
4. the 'Click to view email in browser' point also to the click.shopping.ibemail.com
So luckely there was a post here from Wayne Luke that tells the password change on vbulletin.com is legit, but what about that strange email telling me to change on vbulletin.org too? So I changed the password on vbulletin.com, but want first confirmation that vbulletin.org also needs to be changed.
btw I didn't get an email from vbulletin.com to change the password on vbulletin.com.Comment
