Possible to change or disable the 10 day timeout for non-post events?

When I click "Whats New" these submenus show up. From a theoretical UI point of view, and from a code point of view, on vb.com would it be possible to make the timeout for auto marking non-posts (blogs, etc) much much longer, because the frequency is much much less? Make it more like a year instead of 10 days?
