If vb china is no longer allowed to distribute vbulletin, how can they release 3.8.5 or does their arraingement still allow for this?

They would have to release the instructions on how to affect the change or package it in a product. All vBulletin-Chinese customers now download the software from us and there is in effect no vBulletin-Chinese distributor. The forums were left up as a courtesy to existing customers.

Glad my Chinese purchase could never be properly completed when I was buying vBulletin from Jelsoft.

As additional info to those who never tried/bought a Chinese version of vBulletin, the Chinese version of vBulletin cost more than the English version of vBulletin.

Although, I still think it is a shame all these customers are getting ignored and abused.

Was the vBulletin Chinese team in mainland China, Hong Kong SAR or operated out of the old Jelsoft office in England? I cannot remember.

Regarding searching in Chinese. The stock, standard vBulletin has never supported this. It doesn't support it to this day. It has nothing to do with Unicode because vBulletin can search Unicode just fine. It has to do with the fact that Chinese does not have stop characters between words and as such searching isn't supported via a standard Fulltext implementation.

Wayne, I think the vBulletin team (California or whatever team) needs to talk to IB/vBS about this issue. Reading that vBulletin China forums were left as a "courtesy" should be seriously convey to the Chinese vBulletin public (support?) forums in bold characters/disclaimer, if not already done so, and a proper/respectable/reasonable viable solution from IB/vBS to those current subscribers.

It's appears that some things transpired between vb solutions and one of it's affiliate partners that left a number of customers in a lurch. If I were a vb Germany customer, I'd be very concerned about a similar affiliate dispute leaving me in a lurch too.

From the sounds of it, being a customer of an affiliate alone wasn't the issue. Afterall, all of the vB China customers can now supposedly download the software directly from here. It sounds like the bigger issue is that vB China was extending the product with their own code to handle the various char' set issues and now that they are no longer authorized to redistribute the product all of the existing vB China customers who relied upon that extended custom code have no upgrade path available to them since the code is not an offering by vBS. It is now why there is so much confusion going on... "vB China" still exists but is no longer an affiliate and the staff who used to work on the custom extended code are not working on upgrading the code either.

So if I was a vB Germany customer I wouldn't have any worries. If I was a vB customer of some other affiliate though that used a modified coded base, then I'd be worried.

Until it was mentioned - I wouldn't have had a clue they were doing that. For that matter / how would a regular customer seeing threads from tons of customers like our friends in china understand this either? If i were a vbg client - I'd have no idea wha customizations were added tru them. It's just one of those areas where managemet should have been communicating better and communicating proactively to help reduce confusion and misconceptions.

The official answer is that there is no official answer right now. This has been referred to upper management. When something is decided, it will be announced. Until then there is no point in keeping this thread open.

Also lease be aware the vB China was a completely separate company. We did not get the money for the licenses purchased through that site. There was an affiliation, obviously, but we never saw the bulk of that money.
