Root servers with a i7-920 quad start at 49 Euros / month. And how much is a VPS nowadays? Are we talking about the same vast majority that is also a customer of vBulletin? I wish IB had shared your wisdom before they decided to enforce their new vBulletin licensing and pricing scheme, which basically meant to us a cost increase of 200% (assuming a 18-24 months release cycle).Comment

What has licensing got to do with what server you run on ?Baby, I was born this wayComment

I didn't say it had anything to do with what server you run on. Did I say that? No. But you were talking about money - you said the majority of people here was not able to afford a dedicated server or even a VPS. All I did was to put your comment into perspective with the licensing and pricing changes that have been going on here lately.Comment

However, I am sure $20 a month is easier than $3.95 a month.
Most of us can afford that. I would rather have a host that is willing to give as good as they get. Those shared servers don't give as good as they get.
I would rather have better customer service (just like what vB.org and vB.com give) rather than not having any (forumer.com don't give an inch, siteground are ok but could be better, hostgator are woeful). I'm with oxxus.net and they are pretty good.Aussiefootyforums

While yes, in perspective you could argue that the cost aganst licensing costs makes VPS/Dedicated worth it, on an ongoing basis some users won't be able to justify it. I have my own domain which I use primarily for email and testing (sure I have a live installation but there's next to no traffic hence why I test installations and changes there). While I've been able to justify buying and having the software, I can't justify the monthly cost associated with having anything but shared hosting.Comment

by hoslerI'm trying to trouble shoot some bottlenecks. I cannot tell if my server just isn't beefy enough or if VB5 is just naturally slow. At first I had apache+php+MySQL all running on one server. In an attempt...
