Question about the spam we get on here

    Hey guys,

Just wondering why we get so many spambots on this forum and why there isn't anything being done about them?
We as members have to report them all the time. Wouldn't it be a better thing for you guys to create another usergroup and move them to the moderation cue so that we don't have to deal with them?

I really don't see the amount of spam here as a problem. It has decreased alot with the addition of the latest anti-spam measures, and it is unrealistic to use the usergroup measures you suggest as it would tie up the staff in moderating new users.

I would prefer that to happen rather than having to deal with those that troll and the spam and porn bots that advertise their sites and stuff that we don't really need to read.

Thanks for the suggestion. However we don't intend to moderate new members on this forum like you suggest. We are happy with the current systems in place. Each person that spams is automatically banned by staff members and that is how we like to do it.

why there isn't anything being done about them?
Well they are all being banned

Wouldn't it be a better thing for you guys to create another usergroup and move them to the moderation cue so that we don't have to deal with them?
First of all, gotta find the spammers that are doing the spam posting, once youve found them, its a little pointless putting them into a moderation queue

rather than having to deal with those that troll and the spam and porn bots that advertise their sites
Considering the staff members deal with the spam, i dont think there is anything you would have to deal with
          Jut a random internet person.

Actually, we are not required to do that. (Although many of us voluntarily do.)

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

You don't have to. If you find that it is too much of a burden, you can rest assured that many spam posts are reported by multiple members within seconds of its existence. You don't need to worry about going out of your way to help keep the community clean.

I aways hit the Report Post button when I come across a new thread that is obviously out-right spam. So even the members help out to keep it away from here. In fact it's the only time I've ever used the report post button.

Have you guys given this some thought of adding specialist mods who deal with only the spammers?

Why? The current team does a fine enough job.

It's really not that hard to smack down a spammer, and sometimes the "PULL" "BANG!" of shooting down a spam duck is more entertaining than moderating the general drudgery. Let them have their thrills when they can get them
Anybody who says "it can't be done" will usually be interrupted by somebody who is already doing it.

I guess they are well aware of your desire to become a mo... er... specialist here, but I'd suggest you apply through the proper channels, or even better, wait for them to call on you.

Or just forget the whole idea and move along. But that's just my recommendation.
