Why don't you fill us in since you are actually able to get it to function, maybe you should create an FAQ on the vB search function so we can all study it, then maybe we will be able to use it without getting an error message every time.

    Thank you in advance !!!

As an example, I just ran this search, "search function on forum"

Here is the search result !!!

The search term you specified (on) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

Don't search for words with less than 4 characters in them when doing boolean searches. They aren't indexed and won't give any results. Even if they were leave common words out like on, they won't be indexed either.

Though if you actually include the quotes then it will work because the system switches to natural language searching.

The system really works similarly to Google, except for the word exclusion.

It worked when I excluded the word on !!

        words entered

        search function forum

But why this quirk in the system?

It seems ridiculous to me, users should not have to jump through hoops to run a search on this forum or on any vB forum.

It is not a quirk. It is how it is designed at this time. When you search for a word below the minimum allowed word length it presents an error. On this site the minimum word length is 4 characters. Individual site owners can change it in their own vBulletin installations.

It is indeed very userunfriendly. That's why there's this suggestion : minimum word length in search

Just chime in there and maybe the developers pick up on this.

This forum is the company's showcase for vBulletin software, if a user comes here to run a search, he will not buy this software after using the search function the way it is set at the moment.

I do not run this forum or Jelsoft, but if I did it would not be set the way it is right now, you can bet on that.

In addition it is not my responsibility to push the issue, this is not my business, I am just letting managers know how poor this function is, to me it is an embarrassment, I hope Jelsoft can understand it is one to them also.
