I see all the mods and admins have changed from using the snoopy characters avatars to the simpsons ones now.

How do you guys come up with these ideas and where do you find the images?

I think a theme like this is pretty cool for forums.

I think it's a great idea and was thinking of allowing members on my forums to choose from a list of themed avatars including:

• The Simpsons
• ScoobyDoo
• Snoopy
• King of the Hill
• Futurama
• Popeye
• Super Heros

Only thing is the copyright behind using the images, that i'm worried about.

They are not used for resell, they ae used for free. So they would be no copyright issue needed.

There are 2 problems with using themed avatars:

1. if you have a large number of volunteers like we do on SitePoint, you might run out of avatars

2. your staff members may feel that by losing their own avatars they lose their element of individuality

I wasn't too pleased about losing my previous avatar but I guess it isn't major problem...this theme won't be permanent anyway.

Luckily there are only 10-15 moderators here so we can usually find enough avatars. There were loads on the Simpsons site so we just used those.

I'm actually quite surprised to hear that they were forced on you. Personally, I wouldn't stand for that. My avatar is my avatar, and that's all their is to it. Anybody that wants to tell me I have to use something else can go do something that I'm probably not allowed to say here.

as you can see i have the best of both avatars

Prequel, is that you? I sort of recognied your avatar!

In a way I can understand the advantages to using a theme, I like how it works here on VB because I am new yet I immediately spotted the moderators by their avatars. I think if I was a Simpsons character I would be either Santa's Little Helper or Lisa because I play the saxophone too!

You know (and I'm totally serious), whenever I see The Simpsons now, I see the mods!
I mean, I'm not a huge fan of that show at all, but every once in a while I like watching it.

And when I see the cop - BAM it's James. The dog - Kevin!
