What happened to my avatar? It's showing up as a red X, as in image not found. The URL to it is http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/custompics/avatar/avatar1856_0.gif.

That pic doesn't exist. Just upload a new one.Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)

OK, I don't mean to sound like a smartass, but I can tell the pic doesn't exist. The problem is that it used to exist, and I'm curious to know what happened to it. I'm pretty sure I was using one of the stock avatars, a little green face with a wicked smile. It doesn't look like there are stock avatars anymore, at least there aren't any on my edit avatar page. It would have been nice to know I should have done something to ensure the survivability of my avatar before it was wiped out.
I'd upload the flag I use everywhere else...
...but it's too big, being 80 pixels wide, although curiously that's exactly how wide your own avatar is. Hmm. (The rules on the edit avatar page say 65 is the maximum allowable width.)-Justin "JJR512" Rebbert

We've also never had stock avatars.
I am not sure what has happened so that you are able to have an avatar specified that doesn't exist. Since we often run beta code on this forum, it is possible that a glitch in the matrix allowed it to happen.Comment

I'd like to report now that I tried to make that flag my avatar anyway, just to see what would happen. I put in the URL http://www.jjr512.com/personal/image...atar_small.gif on the edit avatar page and clicked save changes, and continuously it would go to a "Cannot find server/DNS error" page, with the URL in the address bar ending in the file profile.php with nothing else after it. I should think that if the system doesn't like the size of the avatar I'm trying to use, it would give me a nice little error message telling me to use a smaller image, rather than acting like the page doesn't exist. Perhaps there's a bug/misconfiguration somewhere.
For whatever it's worth I'd also like to state for the record that a "senior member" who's been around here for almost five and a half years should get maybe a little bit more allowance with his/her avatar dimensions. It's not like me having an 80-pixel-wide avatar would break anything since other people have them, and that flag image is less than 5000 bytes (it's smaller in file size than any of those pretty shiny vB logo avatars).-Justin "JJR512" Rebbert

There is an issue with this server trying to retrieve the image from your server. I am not sure what it is but it isn't the image itself. I saved the image to my computer and uploaded it as your avatar without an issue.Comment

That's odd. Perhaps the webhost has some kind of image leech prevention in place, but I was never aware of it before.
I'd like to test that theory, if I may. Please tell me whether or not you can see the following image, or if it's a red-X to you:

by DemOnstarWhat is happening with the avatars here of late? I see text that bleeds out of their allotted boxes and it looks messy. Is this some kind of protest by the people that held an avatar before?
