Bit confused about the blog software's future.

Is it being scrapped in favour of the new "Suite"?
I assume I'll have to upgrade to the suite, to continue using said blog software? (Assuming I want an updated blog system)

The blog is part of the suite now. It will not be sold as a separate product.
If you want to use it you either upgrade to the suite or stick with 3.8
