Blog vs. forum in search engines

My understanding from several "experts" is that blogs are more friendly to search engines than forums. I understand the search engines, like Google, are more likely to see blogs as authoritative.

My question is this...we have a pet community forum in which licensed veterinarians answer questions for pet owners (www.petdocsoncall.com). If we would purchase the blog software through vbulletin, would the blogs been seen "better" by the search engines or would the fact that the blogs are part of the forum confuse and confound the issue?

Does that question make sense?
