can't get to step one of installation

I am trying to configure vBulletin Lite 2.1 on my local machine running Win XP pro so I can do some learning before buying full version.

I installed foxserv for a server and database and have that installed and running. Ive copied over the upload folder and Ive done all the configuration (I think) but when I try to launch the installation I can't even get the first install page to come up. My browser just sitts there and looks as if its downloading something. I let it do this for two hours once.

Is there a step by step tutorial somewhere or can someone help me get this going?

    Thank John

You need PHP and MySQL installed in order for vB Lite to run.

I have both of them installed. They come with foxserv along with Apache.

      Thanks John

I could not find the versions but the MySqlfront version is 1.22 and the phpMyAdmin version is 2.2.0 if that helps.

Ive had other people on another site helping and they installed everything on there machines with no problems running the same os.

          Thanks John

Those are not PHP and mySQL. The minimum versions needed as per the system requirements on the purchase page are:

            PHP 4.0.4
            MySQL 3.23

Are those the only ones i need to run this on my own machine for testing? And are there any configuration hints I should know before starting.

                  Thanks John

Yes, those are the minimum requirements. Of course for the full version you'd also need an SMTP server if you want to enable the email options.

OK Im going to uninstall everything tonight and try installing just those and see if it will work.

I believe though that foxserv gets there Mysql and php items from those web sites. It seems that I have seen a reference to them in the program.

Ill let you know what happens.

                      Thanks John

Ok I checked and foxserv does install the latest versions. I guess what I need is step by step installation help to know where to copy upload files to and whether to leave upload file in its folder or copy them out and where to go between MySql and php for user name, password, etc. entries.

                        Thanks John
