After migrating a PHPBB3 forum to vBulletin, we are having difficulty with the User Login Strikes System.
We understand that this is to prevent brute force attacks and so don't really want to turn it off. However ....
Most of the forum users are logging in from the same educational institution. The forum is being used by an instructor for students to post class work.
When someone gets their username/password wrong several times in a row, vBulletin locks out that IP address for 15 minutes.
The problem is that all the students using that departments intranet look like they are coming from the same IP address, so they all get locked out.
QUESTION: are there any other adjustments that can be made to the strikes system besides turning it on or off?
Thanks
