Lasting impact between leaving permanent redirect vs leaving expiring redirect?

What is the lasting impact between leaving permanent redirect vs leaving expiring redirect?

Does it have an effect on:

    Archive?

    Google archive?

    SEO?

Is it possible to make the expiring option the default? (Its a pain to always select expiring..)

Although I am not sure what the difference is..

    I understand the different functions..

I just need an overview on strategy

In every case on my forum - I am moving threads from the WRONG forum to the RIGHT forum - the redirect is only so that people don't think the threads have been deleted.

    Thanks in advance..

Yes changing the default to expire is something I'm sure many admins have done. I have set my to default expire after one hour.

Here is an example how I make the hour field the default.

      Code:
      <option value="h" [COLOR="Red"]selected="selected"[/COLOR]>$vbphrase[hours]</option>

I don't see 1 hour in that code..? (I am a code dunce!)

Is that the exact code to set the default redirect for 1 hour ?

Or would I need to set something else?

How could I set it for 1 week?

        Thanks very much

I suggest you experiment a little and insert the code in red and see how it effects the default choices.

What I do is copy the working template into notepad so that if I mess up I can always revert quickly.
