I had a spammer on my site post spam and his post didn't have the edit button in it. Of course there are other ways to delete but I am wondering how they did it?

No, sorry. My moderator deleted their posts. They made 3 posts and the button was gone on 2 of them. Of course we could delete them anyway, it's just strange they could do that without messing up the rest of the page.Comment

Don't allow HTML in a forum, could be one reason.
Another reason: You have not enough rights in a forum to edit.
The edit button in postbit is hardcoded in the template, can't imagine this in a normal way what you wrote.Comment
