Could someone tell me how efficiently clean up these new user registrations? I've got a couple forums that have been hit hard, and so far I have to go in delete posts and users manually which is quite an ordeal. I searched for "bulk user management" without much success!
Spammers Getting Around Image Verification

Ok yo not moderate all new users I found a solution to those willing to modify a mod. Here is the mod : http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=178611
Now the default setting is for 15 posts before using links etc.... to get around this goto plugins then edit the 2 parts of this plugin there change 15 to a number of your choice since my spammer post then leave I have it set at 3 to be safe.
Now you need to go to language and phrases and replace the default phrase from " 1. You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more. " to a phrase of your choice as well or otherwise your users will think they need to post 15 times which isn't the case if you modified the plugin in the 2 parts that are there in the plugin manager.
With this now I still use no spam as well as the modified plugin. I have tested it only on 3.7.3 PL1 so not sure if it will work on older version but should I think. Hope this helps others.Comment

i was having the same problem but then i added two new mods. Nospam and stop registration bots. I was getting about 3 new members a day that were spam, and now i havnt had any since. Both are at vb.org and they work very wellComment

I guess I was right, the best way to tackle this is to have your moderation team in full force on the forum and recruit more mods to take care of this stuff..Comment

Months ago I thought that there was a bug in it but the answer was that it was not a bug,it has been designed that way.

Spam Messages
Like everyone else, it seems, I'm having serious trouble with vicious and obnoxious spam, which has recently become a real problem and is threatening our on-line business.
I've switched to manual verification on top if the usual visual, plus e-mail verify, which is a real pain and expense but looks like the only way for now.
As we are a specialised professional site our users don't appreciate the spam, especially as some receive it automatically through our RSS feed - quite embarrassing really.
I'm therefore considering going to a member only registration system for use of the forum:
We'll have a site registration system where members will give full details (name. address, location, company etc) to be stored in our MySQL data base
They will be given a unique Membership number, plus they will choose a user name and password, the latter two to be used for registration and forum posts.
Can anyone think of a way I can proceed to restrict registrations on the forum to these registered members, ideally also incorporating their unique membership number when registering / posting? This should give a really secure forum in my view?
Also, I notice that ALL the Spam posts are coming from one particular time zone - Asia / Russia
It would be ideal if on manual registration it would be possible to segregate registrations into time zones - one for our own (UK) where 99% of our users reside, and other zones.
Also, would it be possible to search the forum for time zones to locate any existing spam posts which have already slipped through?
Would all this be possible?Comment

So far I've not been able to stop registrations with ANY method mentioned here, but I have been able to keep them from posting on the forums with moderation.
My spammers are from everywhere - assuming of course that they're being honest about location, lol.
I had over 100 new registrations just last night. I really REALLY wish the devs would develope a way to MASS delete users, the same way we can threads. This having to delete them one at a time is ridiculous.
Now they're spamming me using the Contact Us form. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr....Comment

Mass inline options for the admincp is what I recommended in the past and revisited yesterday. You can turn off the contact us form for guests. And you can set it yes for guests, and use the HV as requirements. Make sure the usergroup has the permission set to yes for 'use HV?'
