Attachments moved outside DB become generic files ?

I upgraded from 3.5.4 to 3.7.2 and moved the attachments outside the database. All the files are numbered but have no suffix and are generic. All have the same modification date, the date I did the upgrade.

Is there any way to determine the file type and date is was attached ?

This is done for security reasons, all of that data is still in the database (anything that was already stored in the database about the attachment is still there, just not the binary data).
