    Server Migration Posting Problem...

    I just moved my VB 3.7 B6 forum to a dedicated server. The migration went fine except when someone posts, they get an error or blank page, "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.shotcritic.com/forums/newthread.php?do=postthread&f=2”. The error was: “bad server response” People are getting this too on other browsers.

    However, if you hit your back button after that error, then try posting again, you'll get the you can't post duplicate posts messages and sure enough, the message did post. I'm running PHP 5.2.4, Linux server w/MySQL 5.0.45

    This is a brand new site that I started three weeks ago to get a feel for 3.7 and how we'll use it on my larger site of 25,000 members when we upgrade. This new site has almost 800 members now, so we had to do the migration from shared hosting as it's an image intensive photography site, which makes the album feature of VB a huge plus. We've also made some mods for viewing counting on the photos, would love to know how to do that for album view counts and we added a pop-out panel for easier posting of images. I paid for the latter two so I can only direct you to the programmer/coder.

    We're successfully running vBadvanced, and other mods including donations/payments, vBCredits, vBSlideshow & Magazine all just fine. Minor template edits, but I'm sure this has nothing to do with posting.

    Thanks, rg sends!

    This is either a server issue, a bad backup and restore, or a problem with one of you modifications.

    To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

    Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

    [Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

    Next, disable all plugins.

    Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

    define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

    Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?

      Thanks, turned out to be a permissions error. Now I'm crossing my fingers to upgrade to RC 1. Thanks, rg.
