    My Forum Dead (many QUESTIONS) ... Please HELP!

    I need your help. I had a 3.6 and I recently changed my web hosting company, long story short; can't successfully upload vBulletin into my new FTP, so my forum is officially dead.

    Here's the link to my forum: http://www.jimmy540i.com/forum/

    How can I get my forum back? Please point out a place to talk to any vBulletin representatives in this forum.

    Also can I do an upgrade (Eg. 4.0) since my last forum was attacked by bugs (filled with porn sites) before I changed the web hosting company, how much does it cost?

    Also when people click on the link on my forum, it turned out to be a page like this:

    ====================================================================
    Database error The database has encountered a problem. Please try the following:
    • Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
    • Open the www.jimmy540i.com home page, then try to open another page.
    • Click the Back button to try another link.

    The www.jimmy540i.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.
    We apologize for any inconvenience.
    ====================================================================

    How can I turn the URL to my website (http://www.jimmy540i.com/forum/) into HTML before I fix the forum?

    MANY, MANY, MANY thanksss!

    Jimmy

    Your database error is (you need to view the page source when you get an error):
    Code:
    <!--

    See this page for the causes of this error: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/cantconnect So, you need to talk to your host about this error.

    If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

          You may start over from scratch. However, that error will not just go away - it is an error with your server. You need to tell your host about that error and have them fix it.

            Can you also check the db info at the config.php file to make double sure that they are correct?

            You say that you moved host, can you please tell us what steps you took for that? Did you transfer the db? When you say, you can''t upload vb to your ftp, what exactly does that mean? Ask your new host for the ftp login info if you don''t know them. Remember, the more info you give us, the better it is.

              I'm guessing the config file needs updated with the new host info.
              also, confirm that the DB from the old server, is on the new server.

                Sounds to me like he's not really sure what to do here moving his forum and what files need to be edited.

                Where you using a "shared host" before? And have you moved to another new shared host? If so a few things need to be changed, including some stuff in the database itself.

                Shared hosts add your login before your Database and Username created for your forum. Such as "graham_database" for database name, and "graham_username" for database username. This needs to be changed to match your new shared host login given. otherwise you cannot connect to your database because it using the wrong information before both Username and Database, the prefix login name added: login_database, login_username.

                To cut a long story short, if you was using a shared host before, and do again now. And they both have different logins used from each other. You need to edit a few things. Both in the config.php file and also in the database itself.

                  Best would be to hire a person who is doing the install.
