How do I have 2 sets of smilies for different themes?

I've been looking and looking... but I still don't have an answer if there is one.

I have a white background theme and a darker one. I'm trying to determine how I can use separate smilies for each theme so they look good.

I will continue to look for solution but I'm getting near my wits end LOL

You can't easily, not without modification or using replacement variables. I know smilies per style is something that was suggested (and I myself want).

I think there was a mod on vBorg that did this though.

I have no complaints making changes like that... I had found a thread about it somewhere but can't seem to locate it now.

Hmm, I tried the solution mentioned in that thread, but it's not working for me. It's not replacing anything
