transfering forum over to a new host

Had a search on the threads, but cant find 'good example'

I want to transfer my forum over to a new host.

I have made a backup (phpmyadmin) of the databse, and copied all of the files via ftp.

What else should i do? what should I do next to reinstall my forum on my new host (my new host is importing my old domanin name)

Basically you need to copy over both the files and the database, and then link the two with the includes/config.php file. Here is a guide for moving servers:

I have noticed that using the phpmyadmin method (its only a small forum), when updating the new server, it creates a new database.

Since i am using shared hosting, I do not have permision to create a new db. What can I do?

The best backup / restore method is to use direct mysql commands in the shell. The guide gives those commands, but you need shell access enabled on the server to use them. You might need to ask your host to enable shell access on your account.

I have already asked the host I am leaving, its doesnt seem like they will (but have made several .sql back ups via phpmyadmin)

If you have a backup already then you just need shell access on the new server to be able to restore it.

Yes you should be able to restore the backup with the shell even though it was created with phpmyadmin.
