WWW Stripped From URL

I am completely confused...

Can anyone tell me why when I go to www.rhinofans.com/forums it strips the www from the url?

Some servers do that. You can avoid that by completing the URL with an ending "/":

http://www.rhinofans.com/forums/

Ok so all links to the forums should end in a trailing slash?

Or is it just better to do www.rhinofans.com/forums/index.php

Specifying the file name works too. All internal forum links should already specify the complete URL with the file name.
