Where exactly is the root folder? which folder do i dump the icon in? I uploaded the folder but nothing is showing up but the vbulletin icon still. So not sure if i put it in the wrong folder or something?

The root folder is the main directory with all vB files and subfolders like admincp, includes etc.
You need to overwirte the current icon with the new one.

i dont know what vbulletin has their favicon labeled as? I have my new icon file in the public_html where i see the admincp and such. I uploaded my new file into this area but still no change.

The favicon.ico is named favicon.ico.
You did write over vB's, didn't you?

my ftp wasnt giving me write over option so i did find the file and downloaded it and then deleted it from my server. the html kit that was in the tutorial is what i used to create the favicon and i did a test on their site and the icon shows up there but i keep refreshing my site and still displays the vbull icon.

You can download it but that isn't deleting it.
If you have your forum in public_html/forum/ then you need to delete the favicon.ico that is in the /forum directory. You can then upload the favicon to the public_html directory.

What do you see when you type yourwebsite/favicon.ico ?

i dont get it. I did delete the vbull favicon. Yet when i type in my url/favicon the vbull still shows up. How annoying. I dont see anywhere else where the vbull favicon could be stored.
also its just my www.sitename.com/
and something that should be simple is turning into being a real pain. The instructions say how easy it is, well um i guess im dumb. And the favicon validator is showing my favs are present but it is still showing the vbulletin favicon as the one associated with my site.. I really dont get it. I deleted it. where else is there a file of this?

Where is your forum?

public_html or public_html/forum

Type in the name of the domain/favivon.ico to see the actual image and hit refresh.

Oh goodness! Ha. Thanks everyone for giving me help and handling my loss of patience. That did it, i typed in the url/favicon. the vbull showed up then i did a refresh and now its all good.

Although it appears Explorer is a little bit slower catching up. Vbull is gone but now i get an e for explorer favicon. hmm

In regards to the favicon showing up... I am having trouble getting mine to show up on all pages.

It does not show up on the main index page, but shows up on the forumdisplay pages as well as the showthread pages. Really weird!!

Any ideas?
