Hiding specific forums from search engines

Is there any way to hide one particular forum on my board from search engines (as far as this is possible) but not others?

Failing that, is it simply a case of using robots.txt to make search engines pass over the entire forum root folder?

Yes you can use robots.txt. I would suggest that or just making user permissions for that forum so that unregistered / not logged in can't view it or do anything in that forum, however that would mean all human activity for that forum would be blocked aswell if the user is unregistered.
