pm not send when giving infraction

So the infraction system doesn't even send a notification PM with the text of the infraction and what post has been infracted unless you add an additional message?

Who said that? The infraction does include the text of the post the infraction is for. It's easy enough to test this out yourself.

I think we are talking past one another.

I'd always thought that when you issued an infraction a Member was meant to get a PM notification that they have been given an infraction.

I thought it was a bug on our board when members' complained that they were not given any notice of an infraction.

You have to set this:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Infractions & Post Reporting Options -> Require Infraction Message -> Yes

Thanks - I use that but it means Mods have to add something even when there is nothing to add (we just put a period in the subject and message). Would be good if it could send an automatic "You have been infarcted" PM.

Then the description in the admin panel is wrong and should be changed (if you click the question mark in 3.6.5 you get this)

Require Infraction Message
This option requires that the user sending an infraction include a message. The message format, either PM or Email, will depend on your forum's settings. If this option is disabled, the user may choose to not include a message with their infraction. The recipient will still receive a generic PM or Email in regards to their infraction.
