    Special characters replaced by ?

    Hi,

Most of the time i can solve my own problems however this one i cant do it on my own.

A few days ago my hosting company moved my forum to a new location.
    I needed a dedicated server.

Everyting is ok but the special characters are replaced by an ? when you post something new.

The older posts are worse an example here and here

So i started searching these forums for an answer, it appears i'm not the first and i read something about the language settings and they are all ok.

Some say i need to edit something to my database.
    But i dont know what.

I also dont have the backup database.

I hope someone can help me out.

    Thanks,

This is likely because the character set of the old database isn't the same as the character set of your new database.
I'd ask your host to make sure the character sets are the same, and then reimport the old database.

They are not available this week and then would lose all posts from this week?

Can i change the settings myself? Or better yet where i can edit the character settings?

The easiest way, which I described above, would require some server knowledge and appropriate access.

I'd need to be able to view the old server as well, or at least know the settings that had, do you still have access to that?

it's always has been that code so it must be something in the database.

                        In Mysql:

                        MySQL Karakterset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)

This was always the same setting...

                        i'ts really weird

Sorry about this but i found a new error, the memberlist does not work.

MySQL Error : Illegal mix of collations (utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) and (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation 'find_in_set'
                          Error Number : 1267

                          Maybe this helps?

This was almost certainly done when your host backed up and restored the database.

Does this happen wih new posts too, or just old ones?

With new posts the special characters are replaced with a questionmark ?.

And the old posts are even worse, a few examples are in the first post.
