While Loop in Plugin

I'm trying to loop through a recordset in a plugin and display it on the member profile screen. The problem is that instead of looping through the results, it only prints the first row.

Here is what I'm using. (truncated for brevity)

SQL QRY HERE

while($pointrow = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {

$value = $pointrow['value'];

$var =  "<tr><td>$value</td></tr>";

} 

Then in my template I have the following:

<table>
$var
</table> 

What am I doing wrong? The same code works perfectly outside of the plugin system, so I am at a loss here. Any help is appreciated.

should be:

$var .=  "<tr><td>$value</td></tr>";
