And the COPPA system is disabled on my forums. Any idea why or how this is happening?

Do you have User Moderation on? If so the COPPA/Users Awaiting Moderation group is used for both Normal and COPPA moderation. -
Then the only other explanation possible is that you have installed a modification that is doing this. The default vB would not put users into that group with those settings.Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)

Don't feel bad, Club. The same thing is happening to me. Sometimes a new user goes into the COPPA group and sometimes they go into the User awaiting activation group. And I have COPPA disabled as well.Comment

I am moderating all new users. And it is a pain to have to change the primary usergroup of a new user to User awaiting moderation, save, back out and go back in, and then send the user their activation code via email.Comment

To make sure you're only approving users who ahve validated themselfs just use the Users > Users awaiting ModerationComment

It isn't strictly a COPPA group.... It is Coppa / Users Awaiting Moderation. If you moderate new user's this is where they go after they validate their email. You should either allow them and move them to the registered usergroup or deny them.
If you move them back to the group for email activation and resend them their email, then you are duplicating steps.Translations provided by Google.

Question: If all moderated users go into this group, both UNDERAGED users and users that are over age 13 who have confirmed their email address... just how do we know which is which? Some of these folks will be underaged users who cannot be approved unless and until we receive parental approval forms while others are adults who have verified their email addresses. How will we know who is who (....or is that who is whom )
I guess my main question is why would the default vB coding be set like this? A more logical solution would be for the adult users to be bumped into a seperate area such as a "verified email users awaiting moderator approval" que. The main purpose of moderating users who have verified their email addresses is so that we as moderators/admins can visually "review" who these folks are. If their email address is something like [email protected] it is unlikely that we will be giving them final approval, even if they have verified their email addy as being a real & functioning one.
