in a couple of my private rooms I cant seem to allow people to edit their posts. I set the user group permissions so they could, but it still isnt working. What am I doing wrong?

It should work providing the permissions are set correctly and you have not made any modifications to break this. Check the overall Usergroup permissions:
Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup
And the Forum permissions for each forum and Usergroup:
Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum PermissionsSteve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)
