Ah yes thanks, this was for a different forum I own, not the one in my profile.
It was for www.stuttgart9.co.ukComment

FYI, your CAPTCHA image is broken now. I don't think you have imagemagick installed. Or you didn't define it properly in the AdminCPManagerJosh, Owner of 4 XenForo Licenses, 1 vBulletin Legacy License, 1 Internet Brands Suite License

Had a look, but could n't see how this could be enabled ?
I have had many spammers recently, mainly with @web.de email addresses, I've switched on registration moderation while I work out how to stem the flow.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

It's really weird reading all these posts about all these users registering to spam the forum. I run a very active 12,000 member vbulletin forum and have not had 1 single bot sign up.
It's using 3.0 though, perhaps something changed in 3.5 that is causing this issue?Comment

It's easy enough and has been mentioned numerous times.
Create a new usergroup based on your registered options.
I call my new group, registrered2.
Set registered to moderate all posts.
Create a promotion to move registered to registered2 after x posts or x days. I use 5 posts or 5 days. Adjust as necessary.
I also make the username of those in registered, green.
For a while new posts were moderated, and everthing was hunky-dory.
But recently (in the last week or so), these moderated posts are showing as threads while still being in the Moderation queue. This wasn't happening before, I had to Approve a moderated post before it would appear.
I double-checked the moderated group (I called it "Official Users on Moderator Probation") and it's set to put all posts into the Moderator queue ("Follow Forum Moderation Rules: No") which it still does, but these posts are still appearing as proper threads.
Also double-checked the Promotion, it will move users after 5 approved posts to the other authorized usergroup and this seems to still be working.
Any ideas what could be wrong?Comment

But when a pending moderation member post a message, he/she get a system message that the post is pending moderation.
"Thank you for posting! Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it for posting. You will now be taken back to the forum. If you opted to post a poll, you will now be allowed to do so."
The problem is if we want to keep troublemakers out, they can post a normal looking message to fool the moderator into approving. After approval, they will spam.
How can we don't show the message? So they won't know that their messages are pending moderation?.Comment

thanks gang. I deleted the link in my thread above.
Smelling a rat, I deleted that post and that user entirely from my forum.
I hate freaking spammers. Just in the last three months, my personal account is getting flooded.
Homeland security should smart bomb these suckers....
I have also started a banned email list. I am unclear on the instructions in vbulletin. Where is says leave a space between banned email addresses, is this correct:
@web.de @ukr.net res6.info @freeideasearch.info @mail.ru @yandex.ru ukr.net @gawab.com .biz
?? Is that the correct entry in the banned email addresses? I also have aggressive email banning now checked...
Will this still work if all the emails you want banned are listed like this?
@inbox.com
@list.ru
@info.ru
Because that's how we have it set up, one entry per line, double-spaced.Comment

A newly registered member who is still in the "registered" group can spam via private messages.
It will be good if we have a method to moderate the PM of this group..Comment

Disable private messages for registered users and after they make 10 posts promote them to a new secondary usergroup.Comment

Ya, seems like that's the only way now.
It will be good if we have an option to moderate PM, just like the option to moderate posts and threads.
Anyway to not show this message?
