Forum viewing permission based on country selection

i was wondering if that can be done? when a user for example selects a certain country in his registration form, i want him automatically to have the same permission of a certain usergroup.

how can this be done? is there a hack for that?

I know there is one based on Custom Profile Field filled during registration, but i am not sure how it is called.
